Board Certification
Dr. Sattler is a double board certified plastic surgeon. He has a total of seven years of surgical training.
Both of his certification boards are recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS).
Dr. Sattler is board certified by the following ABMS member boards
- American Board of Plastic Surgery
- American Board of Surgery
To be board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery a surgeon must:
- Complete at least three years of an accredited surgical residency training program after medical school that provides training in general surgery or otolaryngology, prior to beginning plastic surgery training
- Complete a two year residency training program in Plastic and Reconstructive surgery
- Present at least 50 surgical cases in plastic and reconstructive surgery for expert peer review during the first year of surgical practice
- Successfully complete a written and two-day oral examination focused on plastic, cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the breast, body, face and hands.
To be board certified by the American Board of Surgery a surgeon must:
- Complete a five year general surgery residency focusing on surgery on all parts of the body, including the breast
- Pass a comprehensive two day written and oral examination

Liposuction, like almost all cosmetic surgical procedures, is an elective, outpatient procedure. It is not commonly done in a hospital setting. However, it is very important that your plastic surgeon have hospital privileges for liposuction. Why?
Possessing hospital privileges in plastic surgery is important mark of distinction between fully trained plastic surgeons and so-called 'cosmetic surgeons'. Many unqualified and under-trained 'cosmetic surgeons' in our community are unable to obtain hospital privileges for liposuction, breast augmentation, tummy tuck and other procedures that they offer.
Ask your surgeon if he or she is permitted to do liposuction and other procedures in a hospital setting. If the answer is 'no', then its unlikely that your surgeon possesses the experience, training and proper board certification needed for safe liposuction surgery in an outpatient setting.
